António Vilela Areias

At Quinta do Couço, every wine is born from a family story that spans generations. A story that began in 1864, when António Vilela Areias acquired the estate, and which continues today through the wines that bear his name.

Located in Louredo, in the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso, in the heart of the Vinho Verde region, Quinta do Couço brings together tradition, identity and a passion for the vineyard.

We make wines that seek to express the character of the grape varieties, of the land and of a legacy we want to carry ever further.

Vinho Verde Loureiro and Arinto Sparkling Wine

At Quinta do Couço we grow grape varieties deeply rooted in the region, above all Loureiro and Arinto.

António Vilela Areias Vinho Verde DOC Loureiro stands out for its freshness, lightness and aromatic profile, with fruity and floral notes that reflect the character of the grape.

The Arinto Brut IG Minho sparkling wine combines the natural freshness of Arinto with fine, persistent bubbles, resulting in an elegant and versatile sparkling wine.

From Quinta do Couço to Paris

Quinta do Couço’s connection to wine goes back a long way.

In 1889, António Vilela Areias sent the estate’s 1888 red wine vintage to the Paris Universal Exhibition.

More than a century later, his name returned to the bottles. In 2022 the António Vilela Areias brand was born, as a tribute to the family’s pioneer and as a way of continuing a story built around the land, the vineyard and wine.

Wines from the Alto Ave

The grapes used in our wines are harvested at Quinta do Couço, located in the Alto Ave, in the Ave sub-region of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region.

The temperate, Atlantic-influenced climate and the region’s characteristic granite soils contribute to the freshness and identity of the wines produced here.

The vineyard is farmed under Integrated Production (PRODI), complemented by practices aimed at increasingly sustainable and responsible agriculture.

From vine to bottle, we seek to preserve what makes this land unique.

Award-winning wines

Since the brand was launched, António Vilela Areias wines have received awards in national and international competitions. Each award recognises work that begins in the vineyard and continues through every stage of production.

More than a distinction, it is an encouragement to keep making wines with identity, quality and respect for their origin.
